Direct exchange with an air heat pump

This system distributes cold and hot air inside the building through several thermally isolated pipes. They can be distributed using “splits”, a kind of machine which distributes the cold and hot air using the same circuit as the air heat pump. So, a single distributing system offers the entire air conditioning needed in a home.

The main advantages are low costs and easy installation. On the other hand, its efficiency is not very high, its comfort is relative (hot and cold air come out from the same machine) and it can only be used in newly constructed buildings (or buildings with the necessary conditions) which cannot be very big.

Distribution using a closed water system (with hot and cold water)

This system uses a water system to exchange heat. Water can be cooled to 10ºC in summer time and can be heated to 45ºC in the winter time. There are several machines which can be used with this system: radiant wall, radiators, fan-coils…

Fan-coils offer the best air conditioning system. If a radiant wall is chosen to heat the ambient air, the best choice for cooling is an air convector. As the radiant wall is the best method to obtain heat, it would be positive to use another system to cool (fan-coils).

In sum, the advantages of a radiant wall are its comfort and efficiency although a second system is required to get the best possible comfort.
